How do a Texan and a Yankee stay married for over 30 years?
“We just try to drink from the same well as Johnny & June Cash, Paul & Linda McCartney, Paul & Joanne Newman and Ruth & Billy Graham drank from. There’s no magic bullet. We just surround ourselves with life-long friends, hope and pray for the best and live every day as if it were our last.”
Christopher Dwight Harris has been producing, writing and singing background vocals for all kinds of artists in the music business for over 35 years. People like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Loretta Lynn, Amy Grant, Kristin Chenoweth and CeCe Winans. Throw in 10 years of writing, producing and singing hundreds of commercials (Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Mc Donalds, Transformers, Chick-Fil-A, Southwest Airlines), 5 years of ABC-TV and working as a radio DJ, and this Lubbock-El Paso-Dallas Texas boy will tell you how fortunate he has been to do everything he’s wanted to do except sing with his lifelong partner Janet Lee (Juliet) who, from Bridgeport, NY, has sung on her own share of records and jingles and raised their two boys while residing in Nashville.
So in 2010, they sold the farm and figured out a way to sing sweet soul harmonies through the rest of their lives as...
THE ADVENTURES OF RODEO AND JULIET
They’ve worked up 100 love songs and have hit the road at the seasoned age of 55, celebrating staying together through “the good, the bad and the ugly” with a self-titled debut CD full of their timeless American Roots Music. With original songs “The Honey Do List, “All The Men In My Life”, “Pennies, Nickels and Dimes” and “ Sit And Watch The Sun Go Down” they draw on stories of the ups and downs and challenges of trying to stay saddled in through “all the changes of life’s circumstance” (a lyric from the title cut) as well as trying to keep the love light burning bright. “Hey, 30 years ain’t bad for a Texan and a Yankee.” Chris muses. “We’re middle-aged crazy and we’re not throwing in the towel yet. We’re just getting started.” I think Albert Brook’s character, David Howard in LOST IN AMERICA might have described how Rodeo and Juliet made it this far when he confesses, “I’m insane and responsible. This is a potent combination.”
